What inspired you to write The Lives Between Us?
--When embryonic stem cells were discovered and hailed as potential miracle cures for all kinds of diseases and disabilities the moral controversy intrigued me. I could sympathize with both scientists and pro-life people, yet thought they both simplified the issue. I think it’s easy to take moral stances when one is not directly affected, but what happens to your morals when it’s YOUR child or your spouse who stands to suffer or died? That idea intrigued me and I had to write about it.

Did you have a particular message you wanted to share through this book?
--I want people to realize that moral dilemmas are difficult, multi-faceted problems—it’s simply not as easy as many people make it out to be.  Id like us all to be more compassionate and less judgmental. But for the grace of God go I.

Have you had any personal experience with stem cell research or treatment?
--No, thank God. My family and I have been incredibly blessed with good health, but I am fascinated by all the research and breakthroughs achieved with the stem cell research. It’s simply wonderful.  There’s progress being made annually in all areas of stem cell research and treatment with all varieties of stem cells—in fact ESC usage seems to be in the minority these days, with researchers seeming to prefer to avoid the conflict of using ESCs and concentrate on adult stem cells and stem cells from placenta and cord blood.  And I will encourage my own children to save their babies cord blood.

Do you have any tips for emerging authors?
It’s a long, hard road. You need to develop an alligator-tough skin. Learn your craft, go to writers conferences to learn the craft and business. Write what you love—don’t chase trends. Oh—and always do your best and don’t be so quick to self-publish, just because it’s easy these days. Put out a  quality product you can be proud of.

Do you have any other books published? What are you working on at the moment?
Yes, He Belongs to Me, Just Destiny, and Just Beginning: A Prequel to Just Destiny. I’m working on a romantic suspense, called The Sound of Silence, I hope to put out in the fall. SOS Blurb: Entrepreneur Gianna Donnatelli’s company and life is under attack, and she is forced to accept the assistance of the man who she’s secretly loved for years and who adamantly opposes her goal of revitalizing Detroit. Can Gianna fend off a deadly hacker while protecting those she loves?

Do you have anything else you would like to share with your readers?
I’m just very grateful to those who read and enjoy my books. I love meeting readers, so feel free to email me with your thoughts or questions. Also, leaving reviews on Amazon, B&N, and/or Goodreads is the highest compliment a reader could give an author and is always very much appreciated!

How far would you go to save the one you love?

Reporter Skylar Kendall has run from commitment all her life, pushing people away before they leave her, until her niece worms her way into Skye’s heart and settles in tight. Skye relaxes into a career she enjoys and relishes being a doting aunt.

Then her niece becomes gravely ill. Unable to bear yet another loss, Skye is determined to find a cure, but the girl’s only hope lies in the embryonic stem cell therapy Michigan Senator Edward Hastings repeatedly opposes. When Skye fails to find alternative treatment in time, she vows to end the senator’s political career.

Curious about the woman behind the scathing articles on his best friend, Mark Dutton pursues Skye. Dating Mark gives her access to Hastings’s life and secrets that would launch Skye's career and satisfy her need for retribution… Only she hadn’t counted on falling in love.

Can she avenge the lives lost to politics at the expense of her new love and friends?

Hey! Here's my review.

This novel delves deeply into the issue of stem cell research. This is something I didn't know much about. Now I have a better understanding of the uses for stem cells, as well as the difference between stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood and those from embryos. Both sides of this ethical debate were represented and I'm still not sure where I stand. It definitely left me with something to think about.

These deeper issues are explored within the frame of a romance novel. I enjoyed the romance elements. The main character Skye, had a lot of baggage. I didn't find her particularly likable, but I did hope she would be able to work through her blame issues and move on with her life.

I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
