**Author Interview**
What
inspired you to write The Lives Between Us?
--When
embryonic stem cells were discovered and hailed as potential miracle cures for
all kinds of diseases and disabilities the moral controversy intrigued me. I
could sympathize with both scientists and pro-life people, yet thought they
both simplified the issue. I think it’s easy to take moral stances when one is
not directly affected, but what happens to your morals when it’s YOUR child or
your spouse who stands to suffer or died? That idea intrigued me and I had to
write about it.
Did
you have a particular message you wanted to share through this book?
--I
want people to realize that moral dilemmas are difficult, multi-faceted problems—it’s
simply not as easy as many people make it out to be. Id like us all to be more compassionate and
less judgmental. But for the grace of God go I.
Have
you had any personal experience with stem cell research or treatment?
--No, thank God. My family
and I have been incredibly blessed with good health, but I am fascinated by all
the research and breakthroughs achieved with the stem cell research. It’s
simply wonderful. There’s progress being
made annually in all areas of stem cell research and treatment with all
varieties of stem cells—in fact ESC usage seems to be in the minority these
days, with researchers seeming to prefer to avoid the conflict of using ESCs
and concentrate on adult stem cells and stem cells from placenta and cord
blood. And I will encourage my own
children to save their babies cord blood.
Do
you have any tips for emerging authors?
It’s
a long, hard road. You need to develop an alligator-tough skin. Learn your
craft, go to writers conferences to learn the craft and business. Write what
you love—don’t chase trends. Oh—and always do your best and don’t be so quick
to self-publish, just because it’s easy these days. Put out a quality product you can be proud of.

you have any other books published? What are you working on at the moment?

This novel delves deeply into the issue of stem cell research. This is something I didn't know much about. Now I have a better understanding of the uses for stem cells, as well as the difference between stem cells derived from umbilical cord blood and those from embryos. Both sides of this ethical debate were represented and I'm still not sure where I stand. It definitely left me with something to think about.
These deeper issues are explored within the frame of a romance novel. I enjoyed the romance elements. The main character Skye, had a lot of baggage. I didn't find her particularly likable, but I did hope she would be able to work through her blame issues and move on with her life.
